From the Foodservice Cluster, we continue to move forward with Valorafood 2.0, an initiative aimed at transforming by-products from the tuna and cod filleting industry into high value-added products. This is achieved through the application of innovative technologies that help reduce food waste and enhance the revalorization of these resources.
Valorafood 2.0 delivers key benefits that support both the fishing sector and the broader foodservice ecosystem:
🔹 Revalorization of fish by-products: The project promotes the efficient use of by-products generated in the fishing industry, contributing to more responsible resource management, increasing profitability, and reducing waste.
🔹 Sustainability and innovation: In line with the Cluster’s strategic sustainability goals, new manufacturing and packaging technologies are applied to minimize environmental impact, improve process efficiency, and support a greener, more responsible industry.
🔹 Waste management optimization: By interconnecting IT systems and integrated platforms, Valorafood 2.0 enhances surplus management and fosters a more efficient link between supply and demand, ensuring more agile processes that meet market needs.
🔹 Knowledge creation and new business models: The project facilitates the exchange of experiences and supports applied research for the transformation of fish by-products, promoting innovation and opening new business opportunities that benefit both participating companies and the entire sector.
The project is actively driven by Foodservice Cluster, Iceland Seafoods, Frime, IRTA, and Radi, and promotes collaboration and knowledge sharing to advance the sustainable transformation of fish by-products through innovation and the development of new business models.
