- Measures such as a digital platform to coordinate delivery, a price recommender or software to predict demand could be implemented shortly
The Cluster Foodservice, which brings together a hundred companies in the food sector, has presented together with the Eurecat technology center a plan of seven technological measures so that companies in the sector can incorporate them into the value chain and thus complete the process of digital transformation and be more competitive.
The project has had the support of the Department of Acció of the Generalitat of Catalonia and has been carried out in the midst of a pandemic, precisely because the proposed measures contribute to the recovery of catering establishments, those most affected by the health crisis, and also to face the aspects that will remain after the total lifting of the anti-Covid19 measures in the “new normal”, such as the consolidation of online shopping, the delivery of food at home, the increase in telework or ventilation regulations , capacity and safety distance in the establishments.
The first of the seven measures proposed by Foodservice and Eurecat is the incorporation of demand forecasting software, to be able to make a correct planning of supplies, stocks and production, based on the sales history by reference, by customer and having consider seasonal behaviors, among other sources.
Along the same lines, the plan proposes other measures, such as production planning software that allows to shorten production time and improve the performance and efficiency of the necessary resources (raw materials, personnel, processes, etc.), and a software to optimize transport routes by expedition through a planning methodology with artificial intelligence algorithms.
A recommender of personalized product offers is also proposed to each client to increase sales, based on a technological solution that characterizes customers, segments them and personalizes the offer, and also a price recommender that manages dynamically and automatically the supply and demand and the behavior of each client before the price. In addition, it proposes an analytical system to detect potential clients based on Artificial Intelligence and analytics based on big data (Big Data).
Finally, a digital platform is also proposed to coordinate the management and home delivery -delivery- with its own brand that could have a metropolitan scope (city of Barcelona) or the whole of Catalonia, and that would be conceptualized by Eurecat and developed by different technology companies.
These measures, budgeted and with an execution schedule, are expected to be carried out in the coming months and will be implemented soon in different food manufacturing companies, distributors, food chains and catering establishments.
From the Foodservice Cluster, the president of the Cluster and CEO of Serhs Food, Raimon Bagó, calls on companies in the sector to take advantage of the opportunities left by the pandemic and offered by industry 4.0. Bagó assures that “every time we will have to be more agile, quick and assertive in decision-making and their implementation” and adds: “we want to help our partners and the sector in this way, because it is digitization that allows us to make a good selection and treatment of relevant data, monitor and know them in real time ”.
